TOOL LIST, 2026

Best subscription win-back tools for app founders (2026): Apple, RevenueCat, Superwall, email tools and Winback

Updated 22 October 2026 · 6 min read

For App Store and RevenueCat apps, win-back is a stack, not one tool. Apple win-back offers give you a free offer for lapsed subscribers. RevenueCat can email one standard win-back message if you sell on RevenueCat Web. Superwall covers paywalls and Apple Retention Messaging at the moment of cancel. Your email tool sends whatever you write. Winback sorts who you lost, writes one personal note per person inside limits you set, and charges only when someone comes back. Winback is live, and we make it.

How to choose

  • Turn on Apple's own tools first. Win-back offers for lapsed subscribers and Retention Messaging at the moment of cancel cost nothing.
  • Selling on RevenueCat Web and one English email is enough? RevenueCat's beta is the cheapest option. See RevenueCat win-back.
  • Want to test paywalls and catch people at cancel? Superwall fits.
  • Want a personal note to each lapsed subscriber, your own limits, and to pay only on returns? Winback.

Why the timing matters

On the App Store, the cancel happens in Apple's settings, so most of your chance to win someone back comes after they leave. RevenueCat found 14% of App Store cancellations are involuntary billing failures, against 31% on Google Play, and that about 20% of churned monthly subscribers and 5% of annual subscribers reactivate within a year (RevenueCat State of Subscription Apps 2026). Card failures need a fix-your-card link, not a discount; people who chose to leave need a reason to come back.

Where Winback fits, honestly

Winback works from a RevenueCat or Stripe export, sorts lapsed subscribers into cancelled, card failed and trial never paid, and drafts one note per person that you edit and send from your own email tool. It has no cancel flows and no paywall builder. It is Apple-safe by design: no countdowns, offers only inside your limits.

Frequently asked

What is the best win-back tool for a RevenueCat app?

Start with what you already have: Apple win-back offers are free in App Store Connect, and RevenueCat's web win-back campaigns (beta) send one standard English email if you sell through RevenueCat Web. If you want to choose who gets a message, write one note per person from their own data and pay only when someone comes back, Winback works from RevenueCat or Stripe exports and charges 15% of returner revenue for 6 months.

Are Apple win-back offers enough on their own?

They are a strong base and they are free. Apple win-back offers need iOS 18 or later and StoreKit 2, and can be shown on the App Store, in your app, in Settings and through a unique URL. They do not send an email or message by themselves, so many apps pair the offer link with a message.

Does RevenueCat have win-back built in?

Yes. RevenueCat's win-back campaigns (beta) email eligible customers whose subscription expires. In the beta you cannot choose the audience, the email is one standard English template, and people re-subscribe through a Web Purchase Link, which needs RevenueCat Web with RevenueCat Billing, Stripe Billing or Paddle.

Is Superwall a win-back tool?

Superwall is a paywall and monetization platform with A/B testing and audience targeting, and it supports Apple Retention Messaging, which shows a message at the moment someone chooses to cancel. It is not a tool for messaging people after they have left.

How much does Winback cost?

No monthly fee. Winback earns 15% of the revenue from each subscriber who comes back after a Winback message, for their first 6 months back, and the first 10 apps pay 10%. If nobody comes back, you pay nothing. An optional $249 Win-back Sprint has us build and hand over one full campaign in 7 days.
